THE United Filipino Organization on Sunday launched its âBantay Kapwaâ â" safeguard oneâs fellow human being â" program at the Civic Center Filcom pavilion.
Any Filipino citizen â" guest workers or green card holders â" can avail themselves of the program, UFO president Bong Malasarte said.
The registration fee is $1 a month or $12 for the whole year.
Contributing members should be current in their monthly contributions so they can seek financial assistance in case of a death or health emergency.
Based on its rules, UFO will provide up to 30 percent of the welfare programâs total collections in a month to a qualified member in the same month.
âThis is a sort of donation,â Malasarte said, adding that UFO cannot pay for the total medical repatriation of a member but can help facilitate it through in the Philippine Consulate General in Guam.
On Sunday, more than 50 individuals joined the Bantay Kapwa program. Registration will be conducted every last Sunday of the month.
Malasarte said registration forms are available from UFO executive officers but fees will only be collected in the registration area.
