PUBLIC and private elementary schools on Saipan, Tinian and Rota have until today to submit their registration forms for the annual Christmas tree decorating contest which will be held at the Paseo de Marianas next month.
Sonia Siwa, coordinator of PDM Promoters Inc., is urging all the elementary schools to submit their registration forms for the caroling, float competition and costume contests as well.
Siwa said eight schools have confirmed their participation in the Christmas tree decoration contest: San Antonio Elementary School, Green Meadow School, Kagman Elementary School, Tanapag Elementary School, Golden Harvest International School, Grace Christian School, William S. Reyes Elementary School and Mount Carmel School.
The annual contest has brought out the creative talents of the young students in past years.
PDM Promoters provides the 9-foot Christmas trees and the participating schools decorate them using ornaments made from recycled materials. The top winners get cash prizes.
Last year, San Antonio Elementary School won first place for the second year in a row, winning $5,000 for its Christmas tree that had a giant polar bear beside it and was decorated with creative ornaments made of straws, milk cartons, plastic water bottles, caps and other items.
PDM Promoters will be working with the Marianas Visitors Authority and other travel partners in hosting the âChristmas in the Marianasâ every Saturday in December.
The annual Christmas tree decoration contest will start the celebration at Paseo de Marianas on Dec. 7, and the Christmas trees will remain at the Paseo de Marianas for the entire month as in the previous years.
Siwa said they sent out registration forms to the schools earlier but if any of the schools have misplaced their forms, they can get replacements by calling 233-7715 or the Marianas Visitors Authority at 664-3200.
